A burger eatery in the north of High Point has closed its doors for good.

Tuesday was the day when Small Batch High Point made the announcement across their various social media platforms. It did not provide a reason for the closure, and a restaurant representative who could provide information could not be located.

It opened in 2018 near Heron Village on North Carolina Highway 68.

Will Stevens, the developer of Heron Village, mentioned that there is an upcoming opening for a new franchise restaurant in this particular tenant area in the coming months.

Small Batch High Point’s lease and its equipment have been acquired by a new operator, who has not yet been identified; in addition, this new operator is in the process of acquiring permits and other approvals.

Heron Village, which debuted in 2017 and is home to businesses such as The Mantel Mercantile, Duck Donuts, and Sweet Dough Bake Shop, included the restaurant as one of the first significant tenants at the development. It was first known as Burger Batch, and it was the second site for the company, which had its beginnings in Winston-Salem in the year 2016.

After some time, the names of both locations were changed to reflect their connection to the Small Batch Beer Company brewery in Winston-Salem.

According to Stevens, the proprietors of the Small Batch Winston-Salem location sold the High Point facility a few years ago.

Despite lowering inflation, consumer spending fell in March. In March, Morning Consult’s own measure of inflation-adjusted total consumer expenditure fell 9.5%, reflecting retail spending reductions.

The Federal Reserve constantly monitors core services inflation, which indicates strong inflation will continue. Due to supply measures and decreasing demand, Morning Consult’s Supply Chain Indexes of Consumer Inflation Pressures predict lower inflation in the coming months.

Consumers are abandoning and downgrading.

Morning Consult shows demand slowing. Since March 2022, Morning Consult’s Price Sensitivity and Substitutability indexes for new and used vehicles have increased significantly. Used car shoppers are more inclined to walk away or trade down to cheaper options, increasing price sensitivity and substitutability.

Substitution is stronger for new cars. High substitution effects for new automobiles show that consumers are responding to rising costs by trading down for cheaper new or used cars, which may lower new car prices.

Despite reduced demand in some categories, core inflation, driven by core services inflation, is too high to lower top-line inflation to the Fed’s 2% target. When purchasing a new automobile, I prefer to negotiate a price rather than pay the asking price. This is because I am an astute consumer.

A recent letter to the editor in the Valley Journal stated that Medicare Advantage is being reduced by $307 billion and criticized Jon Tester for voting in favor of the measure. “Cut” is a misspelling. In fact, it represents a savings. Medicare can now provide the same or greater coverage to the letter writer while saving the federal government a substantial amount of money. This is beneficial for Medicare.

The federal government is occasionally a savvy consumer as well. Recent legislation was enacted

Legislation permitting Medicare to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies. This negotiation saves the US government a lot of money. A very large parcel.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates Medicare price negotiations will save the federal government $237 billion over a decade. This is not a Medicare reduction, but a cut to the federal deficit. That’s a win-win situation. Reducing the cost of a service while maintaining the same level of service is a savings, not a reduction.

Consider all the uses for money, including reducing debt, enhancing education, and ensuring national security.

That is intelligent procurement by the federal government.

Shopping independently is made simple at the Jackalope Indie Artisan Fair. With more than 200 artisan and specialized booths selling art, food, home goods, body care products, accessories, jewelry, fashion, and other items, the fair is back this spring.

The fair will be hosted in Central Park in Old Town Pasadena on Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Supporting these artists who invest so much time and effort into making these unique products is crucial. When you can help someone and support local businesses rather than the alternatives, it just feels nice, Kohout explained.

Families and pets are both welcome at the free event. The community event will feature kid-friendly activities, like DIY face painting, DIY watercolor painting, DIY slime making, and other arts and crafts. Kids’ music sessions with local artist Ricky England will also be available.

Visitors will be serenaded by local musicians The Simian Racket, Emily Anderson, Elmer Abapo, Turquoise Sulk, Mario Gonzalez Valdovinos, and Nicole Wedel & Andy Meneses in the grassy center of the park, where fairgoers may take in the shows and unwind while eating. Diederich recommends people to “come hungry” so they can take advantage of the gourmet artisan stalls and cuisine from nearby food trucks.

The event, which will feature a booth showcasing artwork from Pasadena High School’s art department, is sponsored by the Pasadena Unified School District. When instructors and students present a valid school ID, gift vouchers with reasonable discounts will be given to them.

Self-scan checkout machines have plagued supermarkets since the 1990s. They speed up grocery shopping but also boost shoplifting. According to a 2022 retailer survey, this checkout procedure might account for 23% of business losses.

A 2015 study examined the impact of a similar mobile scanning self-checkout system, where shoppers use an app to scan their products.

We asked three students who shoplift food why and how they rationalize it. Three requested nicknames to avoid legal issues.

Tammie, 23, steals €400 ($440) monthly.

When did you start stealing, Tammie?

Tammie: I stole from a toy store at nine. I loved getting free toys because I knew how pricey items were. Stealing is like smoking—you start doing it to look strong, but you get hooked.

Stealing addiction?

It’s thrilling, but no. Since university, I’ve stolen from Albert Heijn. Self-scan checkout makes it easy—lots of kids scan eight things and take ten home.

I stole more last year. I couldn’t afford rent, education, insurance, or inflation anymore. My mother needs money too, so I don’t ask.

I stole thousands of euros last year, which is bad. I fill my bag, buy one item, and leave. I used to black out from stress, but now I just had heart palpitations. Though awful, it has a philosophy.

Defending your actions?

I developed some ethical rules after discussing this with a philosophy student. Vegetables, fruit, nothing absurd. If Amazon had a store, I might do it. Big firms make enough to steal from.

I feel bad about misusing my privilege. My black friend was startled when he saw how much I took in the supermarket. I feel awful because I’m a white student and not the typical shoplifter.

I steal from homeless folks at the entryway. That’s infuriating.

Will you quit stealing when you get rich?

My pal requested the same. He dislikes my stealing. I’ll keep going until I’m caught, even though that’s horrible. I may stop after this essay if people openly humiliate me. I’m worried about people’s opinions.

Luuk, 20, steals €300 ($330) in groceries monthly.

VICE: Hi Luuk, Why steal?

Luuk: I hated stealing. In 2021, I stopped being furious when my pals stole. Raspberry, tangerine, and sushi package at the self-scan checkout. I started stealing sushi when it cost €17 ($19). I stole euros first, then €100 ($110) three days in a row.

Impressive, my pals asked me to bring goods for them. I had to do it because it became a thing. I once left with a shopping cart packed of four cases of beer, champagne, and snacks for the class. Some students waited around the corner to pack everything into a car.

How can a self-scan steal so many groceries?

When I’m alone, I use other methods. In the grocery, I fill a bag and scan it. I wait till the staff is busy with customers. My bike key and bank card are in my back pocket, so I can leave swiftly. If checked, I go back into the store and say I forgot something. I try again.

I feel superior when I sneak out of the supermarket with a bag of groceries. I feel strange about keeping something secret when everyone thinks I’m decent.

I start by befriending the staff so they don’t suspect me. I talk to the staff. I once intentionally left my bike keys behind so I could search for them with an employee.

That’s beyond a lousy student.

I couldn’t afford smoothies or sushi, but I could purchase a baguette and hummus every day. I don’t mind stealing pricey items from big supermarket chains. I’m not risking anyone’s finances because theft is already included in the rates. I’m anti-capitalist and those large firms make gobs of money.

Stealing is harder now because you need confidence. If I think I’m innocent, they will too. I’m more frightened about being caught. I’ve stolen €7,000 ($7,700).

Are you sure?

No way. It’s unfair to supermarket shoppers too. I could find a job, but that’s selfish.

I won’t steal after graduation. I don’t like it anymore—it’s just realistic.

Sacha, 23, steals €220 ($240) monthly.

VICE: Sacha, why did you steal?

Sacha: As a rebellious teenager, I stole pants from clothes stores. I assume it was for fun and attention from my parents. H&M caught me shoplifting at 17. Because I was a minor, I didn’t get a criminal record. I didn’t steal again until self-scan checkouts at 20.

I was newly independent and had to pay for a lot of things. My friend convinced me that stealing is easy. You only scan half the products. If a staff checks your bag, display two debit cards and indicate you’ll pay the balance separately. It started little but worsened.

Teenage you stole for fun. Is it still exciting?

Yes, especially if I grin and look at a security guard. My adrenaline soars—it’s nice. I’m pleased when I unpack my stuff at home and realize I didn’t pay. No guilt.

My room is packed of Kruidvat and Action crap, beyond groceries. Kleptomaniac, truly. I steal fragrant candles, new teapots, restaurant ashtrays, and toilet fragrance sticks when I’m lonely. I don’t need fragrance sticks, yet it’s addictive.

Will you strive to steal less?

I’m ambivalent. I’m grown so much, and this behavior doesn’t fit me. I doubt I can quit on my own—it would be fantastic to get caught again. As an adult, I don’t want to get caught at H&M, but it helped me.

I stole to receive attention as a teenager, then to survive. It’s uncontrollable. My folks are so proud of me that I would have to restore our trust if they found out. I’m ashamed of my stealing.

Our municipal regulations prohibit bringing shopping carts outside of shopping centers and into public areas with the intention of encouraging merchants to accept responsibility for the carts they rent out to customers.

Retailers are required to print their company name and address on shopping carts that are available for use by clients of their establishment. This enables us to identify the owners of shopping carts in the event that we have to impound them.

A retailer is required to have a containment system in place if they have more than 25 shopping carts available for customer use.

One example of a containment system is:

• a coin or token system that returns the coin or token when clients return the trolley, or
• a perimeter mechanism that locks a trolley wheel if it leaves the shopping center.

Retailers who have fewer than 25 shopping carts in their inventory or who supply carts for transporting commodities such as lumber, hardware, landscaping supplies, or furniture are free from the requirement that they install a containment system.

According to Local Law No. 10 (Public Health) 1999, it is illegal for a person to abandon or leave a shopping trolley unattended in a public location. This is a violation of the law. If you leave a shopping cart behind in a public area, you run the risk of receiving a citation on the spot for the infraction.
